BREAKING: Boko Haram, ISWAP Attack Adamawa Military Base — Six Terrorists Neutralised, AK-47 Rifles, Mortar Bomb Recovered
ADAMAWA STATE, NIGERIA — Troops of Operation HADIN KAI have repelled a coordinated attack by suspected Boko Haram and Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) terrorists on a military base in Adamawa State, reportedly neutralising six insurgents and recovering a cache of weapons, ammunition and other combat equipment.
The attack targeted the Forward Operating Base (FOB) Garaha in Hong Local Government Area of Adamawa State at approximately 9:07 p.m., according to a statement issued on Tuesday, October 13, 2026, by Captain Mohammed Goni, Acting Military Information Officer at the Headquarters of the Joint Task Force (North East), Operation HADIN KAI.
According to the military, the terrorists advanced on foot from the LAR axis and launched the assault in an apparent attempt to overrun the military position.
However, troops responded with superior firepower and tactical coordination, forcing the attackers to retreat after a fierce encounter.
Six Terrorist Corpses Discovered After Attack
The military said subsequent exploitation of the area led to the discovery of six terrorist corpses, which it said confirmed the neutralisation of six insurgents during the confrontation.
The operation also resulted in the recovery of a substantial quantity of weapons and ammunition believed to be associated with the attackers.
Items recovered included one PKT machine gun with three ammunition belts containing 67 rounds, six AK-47 rifles, 11 AK-47 magazines, 157 rounds of 7.62mm NATO ammunition, 120 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition and one 60mm mortar bomb.
The recovered items could provide additional material for military intelligence and operational assessments as security forces continue efforts to disrupt insurgent activities in the North-East.
Military Recovers Phones, Recording Equipment, Other Items
Beyond the weapons and ammunition, troops recovered an Infinix Android phone, a Canon portable video recorder, three camelback water bags, one magazine carrier and assorted clothing.
The military did not provide further details about the intended use of the electronic devices or whether they contained information that could assist ongoing counterterrorism operations.
The recovery of these items may form part of subsequent intelligence assessments as troops continue to examine the area.
Troops Sustain Casualties As Wounded Personnel Receive Treatment
Despite repelling the attack, the military acknowledged that some of its personnel sustained casualties during the encounter.
According to the statement, wounded personnel are receiving medical attention, while necessary evacuation arrangements are ongoing.
The military did not disclose the number of soldiers affected or provide further details about the severity of their injuries.
The development highlights the continuing risks faced by security personnel deployed to frontline positions in the North-East, where insurgent groups have repeatedly targeted military installations and security formations.
Troops Intensify Security Operations Around Garaha
Following the attack, troops reportedly maintained heightened vigilance and continued exploitation of the surrounding area to prevent further assaults and recover additional items of operational significance.
The military said the successful defence of FOB Garaha demonstrated the combat readiness, resilience and determination of Operation HADIN KAI personnel to protect their positions and frustrate terrorist offensives.
It added that the Theatre Command remained committed to sustaining aggressive, intelligence-driven operations aimed at denying insurgents freedom of action, protecting vulnerable communities and supporting efforts to restore lasting peace and security across the region.
Security Challenges Persist In Nigeria's North-East
The latest incident underscores the continuing security challenges confronting military formations operating in Nigeria's North-East, where Boko Haram and ISWAP remain major threats to civilian populations, security personnel and regional stability.
Although the military reported successfully repelling the attack and neutralising six insurgents, the casualties sustained by its personnel demonstrate the dangers associated with ongoing counterinsurgency operations.
The extent to which the latest engagement will affect insurgent activities around Hong Local Government Area remains unclear.
For residents of affected communities, sustained military protection, timely intelligence gathering and effective operations against armed groups remain critical to preventing further attacks and restoring confidence in local security.
The military has reiterated its determination to maintain pressure on terrorist groups and prevent them from establishing operational freedom in the region.
The statement was signed by Captain Mohammed Goni, Acting Military Information Officer, Headquarters Joint Task Force (North East), Operation HADIN KAI, Maiduguri, on October 13, 2026.
