Engr. Jude Gbaboyor has commended the Governor of Delta State for his proactive leadership and timely intervention in bringing together representatives of the Ijaw, Urhobo, and Itsekiri ethnic nationalities to a peace roundtable aimed at promoting unity, stability, and peaceful coexistence in Warri Federal Constituency.
Speaking on the outcome of the meeting, Engr. Gbaboyor described the Governor's initiative as a significant step toward preventing tensions and misunderstandings from escalating into conflict. He noted that at a critical time when disagreements among the ethnic groups had the potential to create divisions, the Governor demonstrated statesmanship by convening key leaders and stakeholders to engage in constructive dialogue and reach a common understanding.
According to Engr. Gbaboyor, the Governor sought assurances from all parties present that they would respect and uphold the resolutions reached during the meeting. In response, Chief Ayirini Emami, who led the Itsekiri delegation, acknowledged that while the Itsekiri people maintain their position on issues concerning Warri, they accepted the Governor's appeal for peace and pledged to return home to communicate the message of peace and restraint to their people.
Similarly, Gbenekamor, speaking on behalf of the Ijaw delegation, stated that despite the differing positions brought to the meeting by the various groups, the Governor provided clear directives aimed at ensuring peace and preventing any form of crisis. He assured Deltans that there would be no attacks from any side and emphasized that peace would continue to prevail as long as all parties maintain mutual respect and understanding.
Also speaking during the engagement, Victor Okumagba, leader of the Urhobo delegation, observed that the issues surrounding Warri Federal Constituency had been intensifying and posed a risk of degenerating into disorder. He praised the Governor for bringing together the three ethnic nationalities to discuss their differences openly and peacefully. He further disclosed that all parties agreed to abandon hostility, embrace dialogue, and work collectively toward sustaining peace in the interest of the people of Warri Federal Constituency.
Engr. Gbaboyor noted that the statements and commitments made by the leaders of the Itsekiri, Ijaw, and Urhobo delegations clearly reflect a shared determination to promote peaceful coexistence and strengthen unity among the people. He described the outcome of the meeting as a positive development that deserves the support and cooperation of all citizens of Delta State.
He also expressed appreciation to all stakeholders, traditional rulers, community leaders, youth groups, and influential personalities who participated in or supported the peace-building process. According to him, the success of the accord depends on the collective commitment of all parties to respect the agreements reached and avoid actions or statements capable of undermining the peace achieved through dialogue.
Engr. Jude Gbaboyor emphasized that peace remains the foundation for sustainable development and progress. He therefore called on all stakeholders across the Ijaw, Urhobo, and Itsekiri nations to remain committed to the accord and continue working together for the unity, security, and prosperity of Warri Federal Constituency and Delta State as a whole.
He concluded by applauding the Governor and all leaders involved in the process for placing the interests of the people above differences, expressing optimism that the accord would usher in a new era of cooperation, understanding, and lasting peace throughout the state.
